Posting Instructions
January 30th, 2009Please establish membership by paying either the non-Chamber $100 yearly fee or a regular membership fee to the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Once you have established membership, you are welcome to register, set up a profile and post.
Step 0 (because you’ll only do this one time). Register by clicking this button, BUT BEFORE YOU DO, note that this will open a second window or tab. You will then have the instructions available in one window or tab and your workspace in the other. On the page this takes you to, input the two pieces of info. A password will be emailed to you almost immediately. Please be sure your email program will allow email from WordPress <wordpress@mrvcommunitybusinessbuilders.com> and check your spam folder if you don’t receive your password within 10 minutes. Please email if you do not receive it at all.
Step 1. Go to the website home page, login lower left. This will take you to your “author” dashboard.
Step 2. Click Users and add minimal info to your “user” profile as this will not appear on the website. PLEASE be sure to input your first and last names where it requests. You may change your password near the bottom as desired. Your name will appear in the Authors lower left until we hide this section.
Step 3. Please add a “business” profile. Your profile is done in the same manner as any “post.” Click Post and add a new post. We suggest that you title your profile with 1) your name and the word Profile, or 2) your business name. Insert a summary business description in the large field, no more than a couple lines please. Then PLEASE insert a “more” tag (4th from the right in the formatting bar, see below for more info). Then continue in the same large field as you wish with the rest of your business description. (This will allow a short description to be shown on the Business Profiles page, with your full description available when someone clicks on your name.)
Lower in the left column, insert your phone, email, etc. in the custom fields* which appear as bullets at the beginning of your profile page. You may want to uncheck “allow comments” on this particular post since it is your profile. In the right column, check the Member category. You may forget this step and end up in Uncategorized. Just go back and correct if needed. Check your work on the public website and adjust as necessary.
Step 4. For other posts, we suggest you make a descriptive title, as general or specific as it needs to be, so that other people may find the topics easily in order to read, add or reply by comment. Use any of the other features available to you while posting. Please remember to put it in the appropriate category. Check your work on the public website and adjust as necessary.
Hints: It is helpful to have two browser windows open so that you can be working in one and viewing changes in the other. This will save wait time.
The feature called a “more” tag (fourth from the right in the formatting bar above the large text field) lets you designate a shorter version of your post to be shown on the summary page and the full post will be shown on the detailed page. After typing your post, select a spot in or after your first paragraph to insert a “more” tag, then publish and view both the topic and detail pages. PLEASE check your work on the public page.
*The bulleted fields do no have the formatting bar and this is a disadvantage specifically in the website field. If you wish to insert a website link, you can do it first in the main field using the link icon in the formatting bar, then copy and paste to the bullet (custom) field.
